    This position provides basic accounting and clerical skills necessary to prepare and process the bi-weekly payroll. Included in this function are all related reporting requirements to local, state and federal agencies.

    Responsibilities

     

    Role and Responsibilities:

    75%: Payroll Processing

    • This position is responsible for the complete processing and recordkeeping of the bi-weekly payroll. This includes receiving and verifying all timesheets, travel expenses and training forms for compliance with company policy and reporting to the Finance Director any late submissions
    • This position will tabulate and record in the Great Plains payroll module all employee pay for time worked and expenses and process payment to employees
    • Payroll processing will also include calculating and making all Federal and State Tax payments, all retirement contributions, and garnishments
    • At the completion of the payroll payment cycle, this position will post all related general ledger disbursement entries, distribute all management reports, file summary reports and other employee travel, training documents as needed
    • Must stay abreast of Federal and State wage and hour laws to ensure agency compliance
    • This position will receive all staff changes from HR to be input in the Great Plains staff database. This position will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of staff database related salary, payroll deductions, and fringe benefits.  This change will include but not be limited to staff action changes, new hires, transfers, terminations, benefit changes, fringe benefit changes, position number and budget changes, and annual and sick leave changes
    • Annual and sick leave balance reports will be distributed to supervisors and payroll staff changes will be updated to the payroll budget for the Finance Director

    15%: Accounting/Finance

    • This position is responsible for ensuring that tax tables are maintained accurately in the Great Plains software.
    • This position will prepare all reports required from payroll for annual Worker’s Compensation audit
    • This position will work with the Finance Director to prepare/revise policies related to payroll and provide technical expertise in areas related to payroll

    10%: Reporting

    • Prepare and distribute W-2s and all related reports as required annually

    Other applicable duties as assigned

     

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Working knowledge of accounting principles
    • Knowledge of current payroll rules and regulations
    • Knowledge of standard office practices, techniques, and technology
    • Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook)
    • Ability to interpret the policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
    • Ability to organize multiple tasks and priorities and to effectively manage numerous details
    • Ability to effectively and accurately manage projects from start to finish and meet deadlines
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external contacts

     

    Qualifications

     

    Education and Experience Required:

    Graduation from High School with supplemental courses in accounting or bookkeeping and three (3) years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping

     

    Education and Experience Preferred:

    General knowledge of Great Plains software.
